My favourites for May

Published on 7 June 2024 at 17:42

I’ve had a lot of fun this last month as always, with some new finds and some old favourites!

So I thought I would combine both makeup and skincare favourites for this May.

Super Retinol Hands has become my go to hand cream, I have been using it night and day as my hands are pretty sun damaged (oh my love of the hot feeling of the sun!) and this is the first product of its kind that I’ve used. It has a 1% retinol complex.

‘An overnight, sensational, all-in-one anti-aging and moisturising hand cream.

‎Like dipping your hands in the Fountain of Youth, this is anti-aging hand cream ‘par excellence’.  Helps brighten sun-spots, re-elasticise skin and deeply moisturise.’

Well, my pigmentation spots are vastly reduced and my hands feel super smooth in fact totally wonderful! It’s definitely a keeper!! £12.50 members £21 non members

To my utter surprise I have really enjoyed using the Olay Regenerist Day Cream (£17)  last month. I have to admit that I’ve never used any Olay products before despite their ongoing advertising campaigns. I bought this when I was away and had forgotten my moisturiser. It’s quite a solid, substantial cream, if you know what I mean! It’s not light and fluffy but quite dense. But saying that it’s not a negative, it’s quite rich and creamy with a decent SPF of 30. It massages in well and easily and doesn’t leave any sticky residue, just a discreet plumpness. I’m finishing this pump right to the end and I’ll enjoy every last pump of it! And yes I would buy it again!

I first wrote about this Bronze Whip £4.50 in the Spring, when it first came out, my initial thoughts were that if was dark and scary! But it does actually apply lightly and it’s pretty soft. Though I would say it’s best applied with a flat ended brush to apply first on your hand and pat it high on your cheekbones. You’ll have more control and it won’t look patchy! I didn’t know PS Bronze Whip Cream is a dupe for Chanel Les Beiges Bronzing Cream.! The high-end beloved bronzer is available in three shades, but Primark's comes in one. It is lightweight and buildable. It looks great on the eyes too. So who needs 3 shades?

This is the lovely Maybelline Ink Tattoo 24h Eye shadow in Pink Gold. I’ve now discovered instead of the pots they do much more user friendly crayons at about £6.99. I wear these sort of slightly pearly cream eyeshadows as soon as summer comes and I have a bit of colour. I wear some sort of crayon close to the lashes for definition, but just the one eyeshadow. It’s wonderfully freeing! Not having to faff around with lots of shadows!  So easy to use, a pop of pretty colour.

This was a great find and I’ve been wearing it all month. The W7 Photo Shoot Foundation £4.99 was from Wilko of all places. I think available online too. It hasn’t got any fancy applicator or pump you just open the lid! But, it really delivers in a super colour range and the ‘just right’ coverage, I was really impressed

The Elf  Lash ‘n Roll mascara £6 was a surprise too, I was told that they are often out of stock in Superdrug, as they are so popular they just sell out. I’m very fussy about mascara as my lashes seem to be pretty non existent these days! But I was impressed, it did all the things I need, not clump, no bits falling all over my eyes, a good coating, curling and defining. It seemed very black, which is odd as I always wear black mascara, but somehow it was very dense. But good dense! I wore it on repeat all month, oh and a very nice bendy brush!

What a surprise! This Primark PS Liquid Blusher £3.50 is very bright, like a lot of the blushers this year it has very intense pigment in a range of colours for all colouring. But I found it easy to apply, light and fluid, and easy to control if you dab a little on the back of  hand, tap your blunt brush into it (just like before) and apply it high on your cheekbones. Don’t go for the apple of your cheek palaver, it doesn’t really work. You’ll get a light bright, sexy dusting of pink, looks lovely, even better with Summer around the corner!

Last but not least, this totally lovely Essence 8hr Matte Liquid Lipstick £4.99 that I got in New York. I’ve worn it everyday I think! Soft, creamy, stays on,  a gorgeous colour. What more can I say? You can get it online and Amazon. I shall have to see what others colours they do! A perfect summer lipstick, put it on and forget all about it!
