It’s always so difficult isn’t it to take the makeup you need or dare I say it want on holiday! I’m no different! I tend to start off with the very best intentions, but somehow fall fowl!
We went on a week’s touring trip around Brittany a week or so ago, and it was lovely! My husband is the first to admit that he has no patience to stay in one place for too long! This was his idea, and it was a good one! But with the maximum of 2 nights in one place, I had to be pretty clever with my makeup bag.
My advice is, stick to your favourites, the ones you know will work, even though it all changes when you go away, and call it a woman’s prerogative, you’ll always want something you haven’t got ! 🤣
So what did I take?
First of all it was the Garnier Vitamin C Brightening Fluid - Glow. I don’t know why I never particularly liked this in the beginning, (I think it was just too dark on a winter skin) it seems mad now as I use it everyday. I also use the correct amount (which I didn’t in the beginning) which you need to do to get the correct coverage of SPF 50. It gives this fabulous, subtle glow to the skin. Your skin looks so good and healthy! And it glides on effortlessly, sinks in so you don’t feel you’ve got ‘stuff’ on your skin! And of course you can wear it by itself, you don’t necessarily need a foundation. It really is quite fabulous! You can buy this everywhere, Superdrug, Boots and online. I got mine on the Tik Tok shop for £3.99, it normally goes for about. £12.99 www.garnier.co.uk
One foundation that I return to again and again is the Bare Mineral Original Foundation in Medium Beige. It’s the kind of foundation you don’t have to think about, it’s that easy! I’ve been wearing it for years. I first liked it because I could increase the coverage without looking made up (I needed the coverage because of roseaca and broken capillaries due to the menopause, in those days) Then, I think the second thing was the perfect colour, which is never the easiest thing to find in foundations, though with modern technology foundation colours have become so much more simple. The other huge plus would be, as I mentioned before just simply the ease! Load your kabuki brush by swirling it in the lid, tap off the excess and then swirl over your face! And voila! A flawless, natural, unmade up looking skin! It’s about £30, lasts for ages, you can get it online and in some larger Boots. www.bareminerals.co.uk
If there’s one blusher/bronzer that does it all, it’s this one! And I thought I was buying another cream blusher! How wrong I was! What’s so special about Maybelline Sun Kissed Bronzer? The price? The texture? or the colour range? well, all three! The colour I’ve got - is an apricot colour, 02 Uptown Glow is so flattering for every colouring! You look sun kissed, healthy and glowing! Give it a shake first, then all you need is a couple of drops high up on each cheeks, I also dot some at the top corners of my forehead, then just tap it in with your blusher brush. Tapping is a much better technique that swirling, otherwise you can get it everywhere that you don’t need it! It just looks fantastic! Try it by itself or blend some bronzer just over the cheeks too if you want a more bronzed look! Mine was £6.95 from Superdrug, it’s by Maybelline, so you can buy it everywhere. www.maybelline.co.uk
I bought this Revolution Conceal & Define Concealer in C3 a long time ago! It’s one that I alternate with a lipstick-like one from Primark called Nouget. You seem to be able to wear it all year, not having to worry that you are paler in Winter and more tan in the Summer, it just works! So I always go to it for ease. The texture is great, creamy but not thick, soft to apply and not with that chalky look, that so many concealers have. Just basically good and not fussy, and of course most importantly it covers! I think it was about £4.99. www.revolutionbeauty.com/uk
I’m a soft, cream, metallic eyeshadow lover in the Summer! While I definitely like the super eye crayons which seem to be around this Summer, you just get a softer application with a pot! I love a bronze or a pink bronze, so pretty, so flattering and so ideal just to plonk on when you’re on holiday. Easy, quick and it looks gorgeous! This one is by Revolution, Rose Gold at £3.99. They have quite a few colours too! www.revolutionbeauty.com
This soft, creamy pencil has turned out to my absolute favourite, it’s just the most perfect colour, brown but a soft sort of suede brown with a touch of pink somewhere in the ingredients. You literally can’t make a mistake with it, so that for me is a no brainer! But I just love the colour! From Beauty Pie, Wondercolour Soft Shadow Eye Crayon called Lady M it was on limited edition so I don’t know if there are any left, but I look forward to any others they bring out like it! £9 for members. Do you know about Beauty Pie? You can become a member and buy at members price or buy at full price. Their whole ethos is cutting out the middleman so that you get beautiful products at vastly reduced prices! It’s worth a look. They operate in the UK and the US and are only online. www.beautypie.com
Always my best mascara! L’Oréal Telescopic Mascara in black. I don’t seem to be able to find anything that matches it, even the high priced brands! What’s so special about it? Well it’s dark but not too dark and dense like some others, the brush is magic, small, thin, so you can get right to the base of your lashes (both a must for straight, shorter lashes!) it coats the lashes fantastically and has no ‘funny’ bits that fall into your eyes or underneath! £12.99 you can get it everywhere, Superdrug, Boots and online (US Ulta) www.loreal.com
When you can’t be bothered with all the palaver of getting your eyebrows utterly perfect, and you want something quick and effective, there’s nothing like a brow pencil! The trick I think is the colour and the texture of the crayon. You don’t want something very waxy, it will be difficult to blend through. So this one is by Maybelline Tattoo Brow fits the bill for me. I’ve got it in Medium Brown which is perfect for a fair colouring (some do have a red tone, try a more ash tone) lightly pencil on the under edge of your brow to get a good shape then brush it up (brush on the other end) into the hair. You’ll get the colour in the right place and have a good shape. It makes life quick and simple! £7.99. www.maybelline.co.uk
My totally best lipstick this year, so pretty, so pink, a slightly browny pink (I can’t wear anything more dull than this) it’s one of those soft matte, last forever lipsticks, easy to apply and has that suede look, and as it says on the lipstick tube - comfortable and kiss proof! It’s definitely the colour that does it for me! It’s by Essence which you can get online at Amazon, also their own website, www.justmylook.com/essence-m291 8h Matte Liquid Lipstick in 05 Pink Blush £3.99
