Keep your summer glow going!!

Summer, summer, summer! Where is it? What happened to it? Did it ever arrive? And as the Autumn begins to creep on, and the nights start to draw in just a little, I think we all just want to prolong the sunny, shimmering effects of the glorious summer (or the idea of it at least!).

How can we do that though! I thought I would group together all those lovely products that have made it into a Shimmering Summer for me!

This blog does contains some recent posts that I know are so easily missed and have been asked for, with added content, as I can write so much more here and have a freer reign! It’s so easy to miss posts as they whizz by so quickly, as who has the time or inclination to be looking or scrolling all the time! And lots of people don’t subscribe, so a blog is a chance to catch up on all the stories, and to read what interests you. So please add a comment if you want any more information, help, or just to chat! And of course if you want me to address anything in particular.

You can spend any amount of money on cosmetics and skincare, but for me the thrill is when I can find really super products, at the same quality for a fraction of the price. It’s not about the money but the thrill of finding that super equivalent! That’s why I call it Shoestringbeauty, beauty on a shoestring, luxe for less! Come hunt with me!

I just love all these creamy, shiny, cream eyeshadows. They come in little pots like this one and crayons. From pale silver to deep bronze, from expensive to inexpensive! Take your pick! The joy of these little pots or crayons is that they look so flattering on every eye, every skin tone. They are so pretty, and so easy to apply, with your fingers, blended up and out with a fluffy brush or applied with just a brush which will give you a deeper colour. Apply the colour in one application or layer up for more intensity. This one here is the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr in Socialite about £5

This is the Nivea Gradual Tan Moisturiser.                     I haveto admit that I use this all year! Or one like it from Dove. In the winter I use the fair to medium and it gives my skin a healthy glow, you won’t look like you have a self tan on! In the summer I use the medium to dark which gives you a much stronger colour so that you have a soft tan! It’s a much easier option than having a self tan wither it be a at-home job or a professional one at the salon. There’s very little chance of ‘tide marks’ or uneven colour or even rubbing off on anything, because you have applied it thinly, daily as a body moisturiser. Also none of that self tan smell! This Nivea one has the most fabulous, creamy texture, soft, silky and leaves your skin beautifully smooth. It’s generally around £8, but you can often find it on offer for half the price. From Savers, Boots and Superdrug.

Well this spectacular W7 Glow Primer is as cheap as chips! At £4.49, and equals any expensive one I’ve tried! I found it by complete accident, I wasn’t even looking for something like it. In fact I don’t think I had used a glow primer consistently before this one.
Ok, the downside! Always give it a good shake before you use it as it can splutter, so if you are applying it to your hand first, (always a good idea so you can then load it on your brush from there) hold your hand away from your clothes! A voice of experience!

It’s very fluid, and easy to apply with a brush, gives a beautiful soft glowing finish without being dark, so you’ll be able to use it throughout the winter too. With your foundation on top you’ll just look incredibly healthy!  Available online, and all those discount stores.

These Primark Bronzing Drop at £3.50 are a total revelation! Everywhere I went they were completely out of stock. I was wondering what all the hype was about! Then one day, they were loads of them. Put basically there’s a Light, Medium Dark and a Blush. They are all so pretty on the skin and very easy to wear. Both the tanning drops can be worn by themselves all over the face, looks fresh and slightly highlighted, even I could get away with this look! But usually I wear them stippled on the high part of my cheeks, at the moment it’s the Medium Dark one as the paler one doesn’t show. I’ll leave that until the Autumn.  I place the soft pink blush just above the bronzing drops so that they all blend in. They make your skin look lovely!

This little set of blushers from Primark called Trio Blusher  (I’ve done quite well with Primark this Spring and Summer) is very very handy! The peachy colour is a cream blusher, great patted on by itself or with the other two. The second two are soft, pinks blushes, again great by themselves or with the others. One is a radiant, wearable blush pink and the other one is a pink highlighter, so pretty on anyone, definitely a palette to have in your collection! £4.50

I started to wear this Essence Soft Touch Mousse makeup as a soft cream bronzer on my cheeks and forehead. I loved its softness but now I have been wearing it as a foundation because it’s the perfect colour for me at the moment.  It has a lovely texture, pure mousse, so soft and easy and light to apply. Try it with just your fingers or a brush, both will give you a great look with a light, matte fabulous finish.

If you have blonde or grey hair, and you want your hair to shine and shimmer, look no further, this  shampoo will get rid of any yellow tinge and make your hair so light and bright. Beauty Pie Wonder Blonde Violet Toning Elixir Brightening Shampoo is the one for you!

“The ‘magic wand’ shampoo that brings lost luminosity back to blonde & silver hair.

A luxe, concentrated purple shampoo that brightens, moisturises and revives delicate blonde, lightened and/or silver hair. With Violet Pigments, whose anti-yellowing action refreshes your colour,”

I’ve gone through quite a few of these purple shampoos trying to find a really good one that I can use once a week to keep my grey hair at its best. Well this definitely does that, keeps my hair lovely and shiny and my scalp is ok too. I’ve got another Beauty Pie shampoo and that’s also very good and they have brought out a whole new range of hair care!  As a Beauty Pie Member it’s £12 normally £28

I’ve been using this amazing Glossier Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick all summer now. It’s a really interesting product because you don’t expect sheer and matte in the same sentence do you? That’s why I had to hunt it down, you can get it in Sephora and Space NK and of course online, at £20. The whole point of it’s that it gives a beautiful blurred look, colour but not intense and not glossy. With its long-wearing formula, Generation G is a go-to for effortless, everyday lip colour. So if you aren’t  a particular a fan of a shiny, sticky gloss (you can tell I’m not!) then its really great! I’ve got it in a nice bright pink coral called Crush.

Cheat with a daily Dove Summer Revived Face Cream! Yes I’m afraid that I cheat with this every day of the year! I put it on top of my moisturiser day and night! It’s another soft, creamy not sticky cream/lotion that just gives you a glow in the summer and takes off the pallid winter whiteness come January! It’s very light in effect so there no chance of looking like you’ve got self tan on and there’s no orange eyebrows either! I find this one better than anything else! Boots and Superdrug £4.19

I got this set of 8 eye shadow crayons by Langmanni from the TikTok shop (first time ever!) for about £3.50. They have turned out to be an invaluable source of summer eyeshadow fun! 4 are metallic and 4 are plain, they suit everyone, are easy to use, glide on so that you can blend with your fingers or fluff up with a brush! I’m thinking they would make fabulous presents or stocking fillers too. You really can’t go wrong with these! Use them as a shadow, as a liner or together.
